BitMine Inches Closer to Ambitious 5% Ethereum Supply Goal Amidst Strategic Accumulation and Staking

BitMine has further solidified its position as a significant institutional holder of Ethereum, announcing a recent acquisition of 28,086 ETH, which brings its total holdings to an impressive 5,929,198 ETH. This latest addition to its Ethereum treasury signifies a continued commitment to its ambitious strategy of accumulating 5% of the total Ethereum supply, a milestone that now places the company within approximately 171,000 ETH of its target. Based on BitMine’s reference price of $2,495 per token on September 7, its current ETH holdings are valued at an estimated $14.8 billion. This substantial accumulation represents roughly 4.9% of Ethereum’s circulating supply of 122 million ETH, marking a significant achievement in its pursuit of this aggressive objective.

The company’s consistent acquisition strategy suggests it could reach its 5% threshold in as little as six weeks, assuming the current weekly buying pace is maintained. While the most recent purchase was smaller than its preceding acquisition of 53,501 ETH, it extends an unbroken streak of weekly ETH accumulation that commenced with the launch of BitMine’s Ethereum treasury strategy on June 30, 2025. This consistent accumulation underscores BitMine’s strategic pivot, increasingly positioning itself as a publicly traded vehicle for investors seeking direct exposure to Ethereum, moving beyond its traditional operational business identity.

Continued Accumulation Amidst Market Consolidation

The latest acquisition, valued at approximately $70 million based on BitMine’s September 7 reference price, occurs during a period of relative price consolidation for Ethereum. Following a notable rally earlier in August, ETH has been trading within the $2,400 to $2,500 range, indicating a market pause rather than an immediate extension of the upward trend. Despite this market behavior, BitMine’s leadership remains optimistic about Ethereum’s long-term prospects.

BitMine Buys More Ethereum, Nears 5% Supply Goal

Tom Lee, Chairman of BitMine, has consistently articulated a bullish outlook on ETH. He has highlighted Ethereum’s performance as the strongest among major macro assets during the third quarter, suggesting that its robust performance, alongside Bitcoin and Solana, could catalyze increased institutional investment in the cryptocurrency market. Supporting this view, BitMine reported that ETH had outperformed the S&P 500 by 54.3 percentage points from June 30 to September 4. The company also pointed to the strong performance of crypto-related equities, noting that four of the top 21 performing Russell 1000 stocks in the same period were directly linked to the cryptocurrency sector.

This positive sentiment is echoed by Tom DeMark, founder of DeMark Analytics and a capital markets advisor to BitMine. DeMark’s technical analysis suggests that Ethereum’s ability to hold above its recent trading range indicates a potential for a renewed uptrend. "ETH moved sideways without a downside break," DeMark stated, implying that the current technical setup could favor a continuation of its upward momentum. While the realization of these predictions is contingent on broader market dynamics, BitMine’s strategy prioritizes consistent asset accumulation regardless of short-term price fluctuations.

Staking Strategy: Generating Recurring Revenue

A cornerstone of BitMine’s comprehensive Ethereum strategy involves leveraging its substantial ETH holdings to generate recurring income, moving beyond a simple buy-and-hold approach. As of September 7, the company had staked an impressive 5,067,309 ETH, representing approximately 85% of its total Ethereum treasury. At the company’s reference price, these staked assets were valued at roughly $12.6 billion.

BitMine estimates that its current staking activities are generating an annualized revenue of approximately $330 million, based on a seven-day staking yield of 2.61%. Furthermore, the company projects that fully staking its ETH through its proprietary MAVAN platform and its network of staking partners could eventually yield annualized rewards of around $386 million, assuming the same yield rate. This dual-income strategy—capital appreciation of the underlying asset combined with staking rewards—provides BitMine with a robust financial model, while also reducing the proportion of immediately liquid ETH holdings.

The company launched MAVAN, an acronym for Made in America VAlidator Network, earlier in 2025. Initially conceived to support BitMine’s internal treasury operations, MAVAN has since expanded its services to cater to institutional investors and ecosystem partners, offering a secure and compliant platform for Ethereum staking.

Diversified Treasury and Future Outlook

While Ethereum constitutes the vast majority of BitMine’s treasury, the company’s balance sheet extends to other significant assets. As of September 7, BitMine reported holdings of 211 BTC, $593 million in cash and marketable securities, a $180 million stake in Beast Industries, and a $91 million position in Eightco Holdings. When combined with its cryptocurrency holdings, cash reserves, and other investments, the company’s total assets in these categories amounted to approximately $15.7 billion.

The sheer scale of BitMine’s Ethereum holdings positions it as one of the most concentrated publicly traded bets on the Ethereum network. Reaching its target of 5% of the total supply would require holding approximately 6.1 million ETH, based on the current supply estimate of 122 million ETH. This aggressive accumulation raises questions about the company’s strategy post-milestone. BitMine has previously indicated a potential to moderate its purchase pace to avoid reaching the 5% threshold too rapidly. However, the company has not explicitly stated an intention to cease ETH purchases entirely upon achieving its target, leaving open the possibility that the 5% figure represents a significant benchmark rather than an absolute limit.

The Evolving Landscape of Corporate Digital Asset Treasury Management

BitMine’s strategic approach is unfolding within a broader trend of publicly traded companies increasingly integrating digital assets into their treasury management strategies. In contrast to BitMine’s aggressive ETH accumulation, MicroStrategy, the largest corporate Bitcoin holder, did not purchase any Bitcoin in the week ending September 7, following a substantial $370 million acquisition the prior week. Instead, MicroStrategy allocated $176.3 million towards repurchasing preferred stock. Similarly, Strive, another publicly traded company focused on Bitcoin treasury management, recently announced a $143 million Bitcoin purchase.

Meanwhile, Ethereum-focused treasury firm SharpLink has also been actively pursuing staking strategies, including plans to stake $200 million in ETH through Lido, a prominent liquid staking solution. However, BitMine’s strategy stands out for its exceptional aggressiveness. The company’s unwavering weekly accumulation of ETH since launching its treasury strategy in June 2025 has been instrumental in building one of the largest corporate holdings of the asset.

With less than 3% remaining to reach its ambitious 5% target, the coming weeks are poised to be critical. They may determine whether BitMine becomes the first major public company to cross this significant threshold and whether its consistent buying activity continues to exert a meaningful influence on the increasingly institutionalized Ethereum market. The company’s sustained commitment, coupled with expert technical analysis and a robust staking revenue model, paints a picture of a calculated and forward-thinking approach to digital asset treasury management.
