BitMine Accelerates Ethereum Accumulation, Nears Ambitious 5% Supply Target Amidst Strategic Shift

BitMine has significantly bolstered its Ethereum holdings, adding another 28,086 ETH to its treasury, a move that propels the company closer to its ambitious objective of controlling 5% of the total Ether supply. This latest acquisition, announced this past Tuesday, brings BitMine’s total Ether holdings to a substantial 5,929,198 ETH. Based on the company’s reference price of $2,495 per token on September 7th, this staggering amount is valued at approximately $14.8 billion. This impressive accumulation means BitMine now directly influences nearly 4.9% of Ethereum’s circulating supply of 122 million ETH, placing it a mere 97% of the way towards its ultimate goal.

At its current weekly purchasing pace, projections suggest BitMine could achieve its 5% threshold within approximately six weeks, a testament to its unwavering commitment to this strategy. While this recent purchase was smaller than its previous acquisition of 53,501 ETH, it extends a remarkable buying streak that has been consistent since BitMine officially launched its Ethereum treasury strategy on June 30, 2025. This persistent accumulation underscores BitMine’s strategic pivot, increasingly positioning itself as a publicly traded investment vehicle for investors seeking direct exposure to Ethereum, rather than solely operating as a traditional business entity.

Sustained Accumulation Amidst Market Consolidation

The exact price BitMine paid for its latest Ether acquisition has not been publicly disclosed. However, utilizing its September 7th reference price, the 28,086 ETH tokens acquired would represent an investment of roughly $70 million. This continuous accumulation occurs against a backdrop of relatively subdued price action for Ethereum. Following a sharp rally earlier in August, ETH has been trading within a narrow range of approximately $2,400 to $2,500, indicating a period of market consolidation rather than immediate upward momentum.

BitMine Buys More Ethereum, Nears 5% Supply Goal

Despite the current market conditions, BitMine’s chairman, Tom Lee, remains strongly bullish on Ethereum. Lee has emphasized Ethereum’s robust performance as a major macro asset during the third quarter, suggesting that its strength, alongside that of Bitcoin and Solana, could serve as a catalyst for institutional investors to expand their cryptocurrency allocations. According to BitMine’s own data, Ethereum has outperformed the S&P 500 by an impressive 54.3 percentage points since June 30th through September 4th. The company also pointed to the performance of crypto-related equities, noting that four of the top 21 best-performing Russell 1000 stocks during the same period had direct ties to the cryptocurrency sector.

This optimistic outlook is not confined to the chairman. Tom DeMark, founder of DeMark Analytics and a capital markets advisor to BitMine, has also expressed a positive technical view on Ethereum. DeMark’s analysis of technical indicators suggests that Ethereum could be poised to resume its recent uptrend, provided it maintains its position above recent trading ranges. "ETH moved sideways without a downside break," DeMark commented, interpreting this pattern as supportive of a potential renewed upward trajectory. Whether this prediction materializes will undoubtedly be influenced by broader cryptocurrency market dynamics. Nevertheless, BitMine appears resolute in its strategy to build its position, irrespective of Ethereum’s short-term price fluctuations.

Leveraging Staking for Recurring Revenue

A cornerstone of BitMine’s sophisticated strategy involves transforming its substantial ETH holdings into a reliable source of recurring income, moving beyond simple asset appreciation. As of September 7th, an impressive 5,067,309 ETH from BitMine’s treasury had been staked. This represents approximately 85% of its entire Ethereum holdings, with a market value at BitMine’s reference price of roughly $12.6 billion.

BitMine estimates that its current staking activities are generating an annualized revenue of approximately $330 million, based on a seven-day staking yield of 2.61%. The company has further indicated that fully staking its ETH through its proprietary MAVAN platform and its network of staking partners could eventually yield annualized rewards closer to $386 million, assuming the same yield percentage. This dual-pronged approach—capital appreciation and staking rewards—provides BitMine with a second significant revenue stream while simultaneously reducing the amount of immediately liquid ETH in its portfolio.

The company launched MAVAN, an acronym for Made in America Validator Network, earlier this year. Initially conceived to support BitMine’s internal treasury operations, MAVAN has since evolved into an institutional Ethereum staking platform, now extending its services to institutional investors and other ecosystem partners. This strategic development not only enhances BitMine’s operational capabilities but also positions it as a key player in the institutional staking landscape.

Diversified Treasury Beyond Ethereum

While Ethereum constitutes the predominant asset in BitMine’s treasury, the company’s balance sheet exhibits a broader diversification across various digital assets and traditional instruments. As of September 7th, BitMine reported holdings of 211 Bitcoin (BTC). In addition to its cryptocurrency reserves, the company maintained $593 million in cash and marketable securities. Its portfolio also includes a $180 million stake in Beast Industries and a $91 million position in Eightco Holdings. Cumulatively, when combined with its cryptocurrency holdings and cash reserves, BitMine’s total assets in these categories reached approximately $15.7 billion.

The sheer scale of BitMine’s Ethereum position places it among the most concentrated publicly traded bets on the Ethereum network. Achieving its 5% supply target would necessitate holding roughly 6.1 million ETH, based on the current estimated circulating supply of 122 million ETH. This milestone naturally raises questions about BitMine’s strategy post-target. The company has previously hinted at the possibility of decelerating its purchase rate to avoid reaching the 5% threshold too rapidly. However, BitMine has not definitively stated its intention to cease ETH acquisitions entirely once the target is met, leaving open the possibility that the 5% figure represents a significant milestone rather than an absolute ceiling.

A Growing Trend in Corporate Digital Asset Treasury Management

BitMine’s aggressive Ethereum accumulation strategy is unfolding within a broader trend of publicly traded companies increasingly integrating digital assets into their treasury management practices. For instance, MicroStrategy, renowned as the largest corporate holder of Bitcoin, opted not to purchase Bitcoin in the week ending September 7th, following a significant $370 million acquisition the preceding week. Instead, MicroStrategy allocated $176.3 million towards repurchasing its preferred stock. In parallel, Strive, another publicly traded entity focused on Bitcoin treasury management, recently announced a $143 million Bitcoin purchase.

Meanwhile, SharpLink, a firm specifically focused on Ethereum treasury strategies, has also been actively pursuing staking initiatives. These include plans to stake $200 million in ETH through the Lido protocol. For BitMine, however, its strategy remains exceptionally aggressive. The company has consistently accumulated ETH every single week since the inception of its treasury strategy in June 2025, methodically building one of the most substantial corporate holdings of the asset.

With less than 3% of its 5% objective remaining, the coming weeks are poised to be critical. They could determine whether BitMine emerges as the first major public company to breach this significant threshold and, consequently, whether its ongoing buying activities continue to exert a meaningful influence on the increasingly institutionalized Ethereum market. This strategic positioning by BitMine not only highlights its confidence in Ethereum’s long-term prospects but also signals a growing acceptance of digital assets as core components of corporate financial strategies.
