BitMine has significantly bolstered its Ethereum holdings, adding another 28,086 ether to its treasury and inching closer to its ambitious objective of controlling 5% of the cryptocurrency’s total circulating supply. This latest acquisition, announced this week, brings the company’s total ETH reserves to a substantial 5,929,198 tokens. Based on BitMine’s referenced price of $2,495 per ETH on September 7th, this vast treasury is valued at approximately $14.8 billion. This strategic accumulation places BitMine at an estimated 4.9% of Ethereum’s current circulating supply of 122 million ETH, signifying that the company is now only about 171,000 ETH away from achieving its audacious goal.
The pace of BitMine’s accumulation, if maintained at its recent weekly rate, suggests the company could reach its 5% threshold in approximately six weeks. While this latest purchase was smaller than the preceding acquisition of 53,501 ETH, it underscores a consistent and unwavering commitment to its Ethereum treasury strategy, which commenced on June 30, 2025. This sustained buying spree highlights BitMine’s evolution from a traditional operating business to a publicly traded vehicle designed to offer investors direct exposure to the burgeoning Ethereum ecosystem.
Continued Accumulation Amidst Market Consolidation
The most recent transaction saw BitMine acquire 28,086 ETH, a move that, at its September 7th reference price, would represent an investment of approximately $70 million. This continued accumulation occurs against a backdrop of relative price stability for Ethereum. Following a significant rally in early August, ETH has been trading within a narrow range of $2,400 to $2,500, indicating a period of market consolidation as investors digest recent gains and assess future trajectories.
Despite this muted price action, BitMine’s leadership remains staunchly optimistic about Ethereum’s prospects. Chairman Tom Lee has repeatedly articulated a bullish stance, highlighting Ethereum’s robust performance as one of the strongest major macro assets during the third quarter. He posits that the impressive performance of Ethereum, alongside Bitcoin and Solana, could serve as a catalyst for increased institutional investment in the broader cryptocurrency market.

Supporting this optimistic outlook, BitMine’s internal data indicates that ETH has outperformed the S&P 500 by a remarkable 54.3 percentage points between June 30th and September 4th. The company also pointed to the outperformance of crypto-related equities, noting that four of the top 21 performing stocks within the Russell 1000 index during the same period had direct ties to the cryptocurrency sector. This trend suggests a growing institutional embrace of digital assets and the underlying blockchain technology.
The company’s positive sentiment is further reinforced by insights from Tom DeMark, founder of DeMark Analytics and a capital markets advisor to BitMine. DeMark’s technical analysis suggests that Ethereum’s recent price action, characterized by sideways movement without a significant downside break, could be setting the stage for a renewed upward trend. "ETH moved sideways without a downside break," DeMark observed, indicating that current technical indicators may support a continuation of the recent uptrend. While the realization of this prediction is contingent on broader market dynamics, BitMine’s aggressive accumulation strategy demonstrates a commitment to building its position irrespective of Ethereum’s short-term price fluctuations.
Staking Strategy Enhances Yield Generation
A critical component of BitMine’s overarching strategy involves transforming its substantial Ethereum holdings into a consistent revenue stream, moving beyond simple asset appreciation. As of September 7th, an impressive 5,067,309 ETH, representing approximately 85% of the company’s total ETH treasury, was actively staked. Valued at BitMine’s reference price, these staked assets are worth around $12.6 billion.
Based on a seven-day staking yield of 2.61%, BitMine estimates that its current staking activities could generate an annualized revenue of approximately $330 million. The company has also indicated that the full deployment of its ETH through its proprietary MAVAN platform and its network of staking partners could potentially yield annualized rewards of up to $386 million, assuming the same yield percentage. This dual approach of asset accumulation and yield generation provides BitMine with a diversified return profile while strategically managing the liquidity of its ETH reserves.
MAVAN, which stands for Made in America VAlidator Network, was launched earlier this year as an institutional-grade Ethereum staking platform. Initially developed to support BitMine’s internal treasury operations, MAVAN has since expanded its services to cater to institutional investors and other ecosystem partners, underscoring BitMine’s commitment to building infrastructure within the Ethereum ecosystem.

Diversified Treasury Beyond Ethereum
While Ethereum constitutes the lion’s share of BitMine’s treasury, the company’s balance sheet extends to other significant holdings. As of September 7th, BitMine reported a modest allocation of 211 Bitcoin (BTC). Beyond its cryptocurrency holdings, the company maintained $593 million in cash and marketable securities. Additionally, BitMine held stakes in other companies, including $180 million in Beast Industries and $91 million in Eightco Holdings. In aggregate, these diverse assets, combined with its cryptocurrency holdings and cash reserves, bring BitMine’s total reported assets in these categories to approximately $15.7 billion.
The sheer scale of BitMine’s Ethereum position positions it as one of the most concentrated publicly traded bets on the Ethereum network. Achieving the 5% supply target would require BitMine to hold approximately 6.1 million ETH, assuming the current supply estimate of 122 million ETH remains consistent. This raises a pertinent question regarding the company’s strategy post-milestone.
BitMine has previously alluded to the possibility of moderating its purchasing pace to avoid rapid accumulation that could disproportionately impact the market. While the company has not definitively stated an intention to cease ETH purchases upon reaching the 5% target, the figure appears to represent a significant milestone rather than an absolute upper limit. This suggests a potential for continued, albeit potentially more measured, accumulation in the long term.
A Growing Corporate Trend in Digital Asset Treasury Management
BitMine’s aggressive Ethereum accumulation strategy is unfolding within a broader trend of publicly traded companies increasingly integrating digital assets into their treasury management practices. This strategic shift reflects a growing acceptance and understanding of cryptocurrencies as viable investment and hedging instruments.
In contrast to BitMine’s relentless ETH buying, MicroStrategy, a prominent corporate Bitcoin holder, did not make any Bitcoin purchases in the week ending September 7th, following a substantial $370 million acquisition the previous week. Instead, MicroStrategy allocated $176.3 million to repurchasing its preferred stock. Meanwhile, Strive Asset Management, another publicly traded company focused on Bitcoin treasury strategies, recently announced a $143 million Bitcoin purchase, underscoring the ongoing institutional interest in Bitcoin.

Ethereum-focused treasury firm SharpLink has also been actively pursuing staking strategies, including plans to stake $200 million in ETH through the Lido protocol. This indicates a growing recognition of the income-generating potential of staked Ether among institutional players.
For BitMine, however, its strategy remains exceptionally aggressive. The company’s unbroken weekly accumulation of ETH since the inception of its treasury strategy in June 2025 has steadily built one of the largest corporate holdings of the asset. With less than 3% of its 5% target remaining, the coming weeks will be pivotal in determining whether BitMine achieves this significant milestone, potentially becoming the first major public company to do so. Furthermore, its continued buying activity could exert a meaningful influence on the increasingly institutionalized Ethereum market, highlighting the growing impact of corporate treasuries on the digital asset landscape.
